Early Childhood Program Welcome Letter

July 21, 2017

Dear Parents of our pre-school & kindergarten children:

Summer is still young but we will soon be welcoming you to the new school year. By the time you receive this packet of information our new website: lolmontessori.org, will have launched. Most of the information included herein will also be available as our website under the Parent Corner tab, then clicking on Forms & Docs at lolmontessori.org/forms-docs. For details, be sure to read the gold colored page from Patty Morrissey who has worked so hard to make this overhaul of our website a reality.

Our New Parent Orientation meeting for pre-school and kindergarten, will be held on Thursday, September 7th at Harborside Montessori and on Tuesday, September 12th  at our Top of the Hill campus.  Both meetings will begin at 7:30PM.  At the meeting you will have the opportunity to look through your child’s classroom, see a powerpoint presentation of the children at work, and learn from the teachers about our implementation of the Montessori Method. This is a meeting for parents - please arrange to have your children cared for at home.

For those attending our school for the first time, please find enclosed a First Day name tag with your child’s starting date. For pre-school children we are requesting 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM  for the first few days.  We have found this introduction enables a smooth transition for your little one. Towards the end of August there will be an additional mailing for new Harborside families with classroom assignments for your children. This mailing will also be sent to any other families where children are going to be in new classrooms - mostly 1st graders.

Our  Extended Hours program, will operate from the first day of school. It will run from  12:00 Noon until 5:30pm at Harborside. At Top of the Hill campus the hours will be 12:00 – 3:00PM.  It is available to all children on an as needed basis, for $8.00 per hour. For those using extended hours every day, please contact the office for a flat rate fee. Children needing to stay past 3:00PM at Top of the Hill will be brought to Harborside after dismissal at 3:00PM.

Enclosed please find:

  1. School calendar -  We start the Wednesday after Labor Day for returning preschoolers, all kindergarten, and elementary children.

  2. Welcome to our Montessori Family from our PA president, Courtney, Thaler.

  3. For new parents: Parent/Student Handbook. For returning parents, the updated handbook is at our website at lolmontessori.org/parent-handbook.

  4. A statement to be signed by you indicating you have read and agree to abide by the provisions and regulations in the the Handbook. This needs to be returned before school starts.

  5. Reminder: Physical and shot record form was already sent to you with the acknowledgement of your child's enrollment. This needs to be sent in before school starts.

  6. For Kindergarten and Elementary children a required school supplies list. As in the past, we are purchasing these in bulk. Unless you prefer getting these supplies on your own, there is no additional action required besides paying the invoice that was sent out with the tuition bill.

  7. Parent information sheet “Introducing” your child.  Please fill out and return before school starts.  Even if your child has attended previously, they are constantly growing and changing.  It’s always good to get an update from the parent perspective.

We will be having an organizational/election of officers meeting of the Parent Association on the Tuesday before Labor Day, August 29th at 7:30pm in the Blue Room, Harborside Campus.    More about this can be found in the welcome message from our Parent Association president, Courtney Thaler.

The Montessori approach, as implemented at our school empowers children in a way that turns them into vigorous self-starters and independent thinkers. They also learn what it means to be members of a community and how to work together and support each other.

We look forward to nurturing the light that is most precious to us all – the brightness of your children!
