School Communications Update Letter

Dear Love of Learning Families,

At the end of the last school year we surveyed parents and staff about their experience with Love of Learning. Thanks to everyone who took the time to offer feedback!

Your responses confirmed that Love of Learning is a special school like no other - the hallways are outside, the administrators and directors are hands-on, and our community is like family. The magic is in the Montessori Method; and the dedicated staff and involved parents make Love of Learning a wonderful place to go to school.

Communication surfaced as one key area for improvement. With this in mind, we’re implementing some upgrades to our communications tools and processes so that we can work even better together to continue give our students a great experience. We’re embracing new technology to save time and effort and meet people where they are (on their smartphones!), but these tools are no substitution for in-person dialogue and participation.

The purpose of these changes is to ensure that everyone has the information they need, when they need it, and how they need it to best support the students. From lunch schedules, to school events, and important forms - there is a lot to communicate.

These updates are just the start. Habits also need to change to ensure we make the most of these new channels for communication. Thanks for your patience and cooperation as we implement new policies and systems.

Highlights include:

  • Clean layout and intuitive navigation

  • Mobile-friendly

  • Easy to find lunch menu

  • Up-to-date calendar with school events and important dates

  • Password-protected photo galleries and class lists (Password is “followthechild”)

  • Mr. Thompson’s blog

  • Staff page with photos

  • Online signups and payments

  • Descriptions of the academic and ancillary programs

  • Shorter URL, the previous URL,, will redirect to this new site

The website is dynamic and as the year goes on, pages will be added about parent involvement (under the Parent Corner section), fundraisers (under the Giving section), sign-ups and online payments for the ancillary programs, and more!

The website will serve as your ‘one source of truth’ on all things LOL. When in doubt, check the website. Announcements and important information share via Parent News will link back to a page on the website.

Our new phone number, powered by Google Voice, will streamline communication for the school. There are several benefits:  

  1. Texting: you can now text the school about absences, late pick up, etc.

  2. Voicemail Transcription: leave a voicemail and the administrators will get a transcription of the message, so they can quickly determine the level of urgency and respond accordingly

  3. Mobility: calls, texts, and voicemails can be viewed by administrators on their mobile phones, so when they are outside of the office, they can still be in touch.

The Facebook page isn’t exactly new, but the url is and we plan on posting more regularly this year (at least once/week). Please “Like” the page and check back regularly for fun social posts. Please consider writing a review on the Page and ‘checking-in’ when you post photos from the school.

Closed Facebook Group:

New this year, we’re inviting LOL Families to a closed Facebook group. This group is a place for community-building, asking questions to other parents, planning meetups, and getting support. This group will be especially helpful to new families who are navigating the traditions and happenings at our school for the first time. This group is managed and moderated by parent volunteers and is not a substitute for direct communication with the LOL staff re private matters or serious issues of concern.
